TE has now acquired a 3-D printer. M280 printer is special because it treats materials ranging from hardenable tool steel to inconi. Other advantages are that there are very few restrictions on how components and tools can be designed.
A detail may be a structure with an internal support structure to provide the same strength as a solid construction, but with lower overall weight. It is also possible to print on top of other flat surfaces, what in the next cycle can be fabricated
The printer is used by companies that manufacture automotive parts, aerospace firms, in the production of musical instruments, consumer-product companies and by dentists. Up to 450 dental crowns, each tailored individually, can be manufactured continuously during a day.
